| Utility 103 Will Take That Call........ |
Tue. Feb 24th 2009
While staged for the annual Mardi Gras Parade in Clarendon, an ACPD officer reported to Utility 103 that there was smoke coming out of a storm drain near the Courthouse Metro. FF-Recruit Sarah Smith and Chief Scott Pardi responded on foot to investigate. They confirmend smoke showing out of the drain at a steady pace. They called the incident into ECC. Engine 110 responded shortly after. Apparently they ran the call a few hours earlier and didn't get all the hot spots in the large pile of leaves clogging the storm drain. Engine 110's crew quickly removed the manhole cover and used copious amounts of water this time. Chief Pardi went to the engine to get a 10 ft. pike pole and returned to find a motor officer on the hose line and FF-Recruit Smith standing there watching. The leaves are flushed away and E110 goes in service.
This was the first fire call for FF-Recruit Smith, all before she hits the ride list. I'm sure she'll get the hose line next time.
